MFC Foundation mission is simple, by harnessing the passion and power of the Football Club brand, we work to inspire hope and confidence, and improve the life chances of young people and adults across Teesside.
We work in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Teesside, engaging with those who are hard to reach through the delivery of inspiring sport, education, health and inclusion projects
The Middlesbrough FC Foundation
MFC Foundation works across Teesside, delivering sport, health, education and inclusion projects that raise aspirations and change lives amongst the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in local communities.
MFC Foundation was set up by Steve Gibson in 1996 as the independent charitable arm of Middlesbrough FC. Though it uses the official ‘Boro’ brand to engage with various members of the community, MFC Foundation exists as a separate entity from the football club.
Although a separate entity, the Foundation relies heavily on the Club in order to raise vital funds that support vulnerable communities. The Foundation is supported by the club in order to run the extremely successful Boro Lotto and a range of Riverside Stadium Tours. All profits made via these initiatives are donated back to the Foundation in order for them to continue their life changing work.
The Boro Lotto in aid of MFC Foundation helps to power a wide variety of community projects across the Tees Valley. Tickets cost just £1 and sellers can be found in and around the Riverside Stadium before kick-off at every Middlesbrough FC home game.
MFC Foundation supports the club to deliver a range of health and well-being initiatives which encourage both staff and fans to lead healthier and happier lives. One of these initiatives includes the popular Extra Life initiative which is delivered in partnership with Middlesbrough Council’s Public Health Department. Extra Life is a unique health improvement programme that works by identifying specific health needs of those working at or visiting the club regularly. The Foundation drives change through identifying needs and designing initiative that support everyone to improve their health.
The Foundation works with over 30,000 people every year and in 20 years has delivered over 20,000 qualifications, engaged with over 500,000 people and invested £25 million locally in order to tackle inequality and disadvantage.
